On 31 January 2017, the Centre hosted a book launch for Dr. Sheila Kidd’s new book, ‘Còmhraidhean nan Cnoc. The Nineteenth Century Gaelic Prose Dialogue.’ A glowing review of the title, peppered with anecdotes from Sheila’s University days, was given by Dr. Sheila Kidd’s mentor, Professor Donald E. Meek. In addition to the refreshments provided, we were treated to a performance by Dr. Aonghas Maccoinnich and Dr. Sim Innes, who recited one of the conversations discussed in Kidd’s book.
The book is available from the Gaelic Books Council at a cost of £25. However, if you are interested in becoming a member of the Scottish Gaelic Texts Society, the membership fee is £20 per annum for individuals and each member is entitled to a free copy of all publications issued while the holder is in subscription. New members may purchase up to two volumes of their choice already published by the society at half-price. SGTS Membership Forms were provided at the Launch, but any interested parties could request a form from fiossgts@outlook.com.
Our seminar series continues next week on 7 February 2017 with Nyree Finlay (University of Glasgow) to discuss ‘Ancestral Studies Public Workshop’. This will be held in Room 202 in 3 University Gardens at 5.30pm. All welcome!
